April 17th - Skinny Jeans

Nine of Diamonds - Skinny Jeans
17 - Heroic Verse

My fatal flaw here was ambition. This was supposed to be a sweeping Heroic saga about a self-styled New York hipster that would have included an epic verbal battle with a rival about out-of-print records. The money shot would have been a comparison of the gait of an errant knight to the way one walks while wearing skinny jeans. Of course such a thing could not be accomplished on a Starbucks lunch break (my biggest chunk of free time today), so here's a draft what I have so far:

They came from western lands and townships far
so they could get around without a car
From mountain counrty: Missoula, Montana
and Colorado, and of course Savannah,
Georgia, from little towns in heartland states,
even Jersey, as if guided by the fates
as if atop triremes or arab horses
they came in endless teeming fresh-faced forces
Some from duty, others out of love
for one polis pedestaled above
all their hometowns and other likely choices
to settle down, to finally find their voices,
to make a difference for the starving masses,
to get a job, to maybe take some classes
But some paid noble destinies no mind:
They came, the hipsters, wanting a good time
Descending like a swarm of waifish locusts
on all five boroughs (mostly Brooklyn focused)
And the bits of culture that they brought us?
Fixed-gear cycles, cocaine, and bad haircuts
So written here: the downfall painf'lly cruel
of one such kid who wanted to be cool
Born into a moderate glass empire
Crushed by his own conflicting desires
Out of the womb: "Alexander Cox-Stein, Esquire"

P.S. Yo, J.B., you down to flesh this one out in the Motherland?
